SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

If you are a writer or artist above 14 years of age considering submitting your work to The Ideate Review, welcome!
Please peruse the following guidelines carefully before submitting. We have outlined the "Author Rights" located under [Submit].

POSSIBLE GENRES

  • Short stories: Up to 2 pieces (2,000 words max. per piece)

  • Poetry: Up to 5 poems (no length limit)

  • Art: Up to 7 pieces (any form of visual art)

  • We welcome simultaneous submissions, but please notify us immediately at theideatereview@gmail.com if your piece has been accepted elsewhere.

HOW TO SUBMIT LITERARY WORKS

  1. Format your work into a single word document (.doc or .docx).
    If you are submitting multiple pieces, each piece must begin on a new page.

  2. Short stories must be formatted in 12 pt. Times New Roman, double-spaced.
    Poems must be formatted in 12 pt. Times New Roman, single-spaced.

  3. Works of writing must include the word count at the top.

  4. Title the file: FirstnameLastname_TitleOfSubmission.docx. For example, TheIdeate_Blue.docx.
    Attach the file to the email.

  5. In the body of the email, please include:

    1. third-person bio that you would like to see included in our issue if published.

    2. brief paragraph explaining how your piece connects to our theme, global issues and identity

    3. How you have heard about our magazine (NewPages listing, Duotrope listing, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

  6. The email subject line must read: (GENRE) Firstname Lastname - Title Of Submission(s).
    For example, (SHORT STORY) The Ideate - Blue. Send separate emails for separate genres.

  7. Send the email to theideatereview@gmail.com. Response time may range from a week to three months. If you haven’t heard from us in three months, please send a polite email to us.

HOW TO SUBMIT ARTWORKS

  1. Format your visual art piece(s) into .jpg format

  2. Title the file(s): FirstnameLastname_TitleOfSubmission.jpg. For example, TheIdeate_Blue.jpg.
    Attach the file to the email.

  3. Please ensure that your submission is of the highest quality as possible.

  4. Follow steps 5-7 as detailed in literary submission guidelines.

The Ideate Review is a tri-annual literary magazine that publishes issues in April, August, and December.
